What ever happened to our Speak Good English campaign? The Singapore government spends a lot of $$$ on campaigns to encourage the dear citizens of Singapore to possibly speak some adequate & comprehensive English! Now, we all know that the Miss Singapore Beauty Pageant is a contest that tries to encapsulate the true virtues or beauty which are: Intelligence, poise, confidence, physical beauty and possibly some humor. The winners of this contest usually have all of the above mentioned qualities. They are more often than not representing Singapore in totality. They are the paradigm of all those great attributes.
This year’s winner was quite a shocker ! Just take a look at the video and you’ll see what I am trying to get at. What on earth were the judges thinking sending “poor” Miss Ris Low to the international stage to represent Singapore?
I am not saying Miss Ris Low won’t do Singapore proud but I am saying she might perhaps pale in comparison to the rest of her competitors from all over the world- “as pale as a ghost almost invisible and not even having stage presence that is”.
I do however, wish Miss Ris the very best of luck *she’ll need it I’m sure*. I shall be patriotic this time around and shout ” Go Singapore” *smacks forehead in disgrace*
