Huge group of dancers break out and perform spontaneously in the heart of the central business district, Raffles place, 23rd Oct 09.

Right here in little old Singapore we don’t get many outrageous and quirky things happening. Especially right in the heart of the central business district where everyone is rushing for lunches and to back to the office during their lunch breaks.

This is a viral video that has been circulating around Facebook.  Apparently they are known as the flash mob group. They are known for dancing in huge groups in public areas such as shopping centres, museums and galleries.

When I first saw this video, I was delighted to see that such things actually took place in Singapore. After all Singapore is known to be the safe city whereby if you’d to do a performance, you’d need a permit or a license first before you can actually perform.

Such a performance shows that Singapore is opening up and embracing more liberal perceptions and views on performances in public areas.  On a another note, I also do ponder what this whole performance was really about?

Judging from the sound system used, i’d think a corporate or events company had something to do with this. Through further investigations, I found out that this was to promote the Singapore Dance Festival 2009 at the Esplanade. I think the Flash Mob group is excellent and have tons of potential to put Singapore on a map of  viral marketing but do they do anything else besides dancing?
